How One Designer Made $35,303.91 In 5 Months From One Online Course - With No Paid Advertising
The question I am most frequently asked is, “Is it really possible to make money, real money, by offering online courses?” And the answer is, yes, it is, but it takes a marketing plan + time (and sometimes a little money, but not always) to execute effectively.
In this post, I’m sharing with you the story of how one interior designer, Jenna Gaidusek, made $35,303.91.00 in the last 5 months of 2018 - with no paid advertising and no prior experience offering online courses.
Today, Jenna continues to make 24/7 income from a variety of online courses she offers, (including one we wrote and are offering together-more on that later in this post) in addition to being an edesigner and the founder of a very popular platform, www.eDesignTribe.com, for those offering remote or edesign services to others.
First, meet Jenna.
And because I know seeing is believing, here are screenshots of Jenna’s transactions for her first online course, from the time she first started offering it in August of 2018, through December 31. 2018.
NOTE: Some of these amounts are different because Jenna accepts different currencies and because there were different prices on the course during this 4 month time frame.
Her course taught/teaches those designers who want to add in edesign services to their offerings how to do that successfully.
Today, Jenna herself is a successful edesigner, working 1 on 1 with her clients, while also offering additional online courses through her eDesignU platform, and running her popular Facebook Group. In other words, she walks the talk.

JENNA’S BACKSTORY
Jenna has a Bachelor’s In Interior Design degree from Sage College of Albany, in New York. After college, she also got her real estate license and did a little bit of home staging. She met her husband while in college and together, they moved first to Louisville, KY where Jenna took a job at Arhaus Furniture. While working for Arhaus, she got transferred to different cities several times, while moving up the career ladder.
She finally ended up at the Arhaus location in the meatpacking district of New York City, where she started Arhaus’ To The Trade program.
However, desiring more freedom, she left Arhaus in 2015 and began doing edesign projects for Laurel and Wolf, then Decorist and Switch Pop.
In 2017, while still working with Decorist and also working on her own with edesign clients, she had her beautiful (now 2 year old) daughter. In this same year, she started a blog and also started marketing herself on social media more extensively.
In August of 2018, she saw a need in the edesign marketplace. There was no community, no place for edesigners to gather, to communicate, to be promoted, so she started the www.eDesignTribe.com platform and her Facebook Group, (now at 1300+ members and growing fast ) to do just that. It was at this same time that she put together her first online course…..and the rest is history.
How Did Jenna Market Her First Online Course?
The full case study of that is in the course Jenna and I have created together, but a few key details?
1. She told her Facebook Group about it.
2. She mailed her email list - extensively.
3. She spoke about how she needed to create flexibility and time freedom in her life as an entrepreneur, Mom of a young daughter and wife, and encouraged others to buy her course so they, too, could understand how to become an edesigner or offer remote design and create this same flexibility and time freedom in their lives.
Many of the interior designers that bought Jenna’s first course were doing full service design, but wanted to understand how to also add edesign or remote design into their services.
Jenna did much more to market this first course, but did not do any paid advertising, and the case study she wrote about everything she did, which is part of our own online course together, is fascinating in and of itself - and worth the price of admission.
