What Is The Difference Between Interior Design, Staging and Styling?

Are you building a new home, or remodeling? Or, are you getting ready to sell your home? Or, do you love sharing pictures of your home with your friends on Instagram and wishing your pictures looked prettier, so you could get more clicks and likes to create buzzy fun?

Do you find yourself scrolling through Pinterest for inspiration?

Are you realizing you might need some professional help, but aren't sure who to hire..and for what tasks?

We hope this explanation of the differences between a professional interior designer, a stager and a stylist will help you understand each profession, better, and how to hire the right person for the right job.. so you get exactly the benefits from your investment, that you need.

Most interior designers, and most of our own clients (whom you can find on our CLIENTS page, here, ) offer all 3 services, interior design, staging and styling. We hope that by educating you on the differences, you will be empowered to get exactly the services you need, when you need them.

What follows are visual examples of the 3 professions.

INTERIOR DESIGN. ( This room was created for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Australia, so it is really an example of set design, but it shows how personalization and creating an artistic statement in 3 dimensions are hallmarks of interior design.)

STAGING. The staged home below is devoid of personalization, and has minimal furniture. It has been staged to highlight its attributes of space, light filled, large windows, and beautiful floors so homeowners can easily imagine how their own furnishings, art, etc. would look. Staging a home increases its value to the widest possible range of potential buyers and increases how fast offers come in.

STYLING. The styled image, below, shows how hazy backgrounds with sharp focus in the foreground, bright colors and high contrast evoke emotional responses that increase click throughs, purchases, likes and shares. There's just *something about it* that makes you click. That is the power of styling, so if your goal is to get clicks and purchases, it pays to hire a professional stylist.

We hope this post has been helpful to you in visually seeing - and understanding - the differences between the professions of interior design, staging and styling.

If you've found it useful, please share it with your friends, who may also need the information in it!
