Interior Designer Headshots

The power of a great headshot to impact perception of your interior design brand online cannot be underestimated.

I’ve struggled with finding photographers in my own professional life who could really capture the essence of me, but recently met a photographer in November of 2023 who has that gift. His name is Patrick Meredith and his company is @amp2pm_images. He took the shot that opens this post at Roche Bobois during Texas Design Week - Houston, April 2024.

The Backstory Of How I Met Patrick

You never know how someone will find you online - whether you’re a photographer, interior designer, digital marketing service provider [ like me ] or another type of creative.

I was searching for a photographer who lived in my small coastal town of League City, TX, which is about 30 minutes south of downtown Houston and 30 minutes north of Galveston, TX. To find this person, I visited a site I’ve never visited before: Thumbtack.

That’s how I found Patrick. BUT, he lived in Houston proper. However, the artistic quality of the headshot images in his portfolio were exactly what I was seeking so I contacted him, and we made arrangements to meet at James Craig Furnishings. He was so nice in person and Jimmy, the owner of James Craig Furnishings, immediately hired him on the spot to shoot Diane Cowen’s retirement party that was being held there in December.

From there, I referred him to Robin Burrill, CEO and principal designer of Signature Home Services, who needed a new headshot. Robin and her good friend, Alisa Tarver Berry, ended up hiring him together to shoot new headshots for them at January Lightovation, where I had also hired him again to cover the opening day of the Metaverse Lighting Trendhouse installation, a project of my business for Lightovation, in collaboration with Annilee Waterman and Shay Geyer.

Here’s the stunning headshot he took of Robin at Lightovation, which was featured in this wonderful story Canvas Rebel wrote about Robin’s background here.

[ On a side note: Robin also recently debuted a gorgeous new website for her business, Signature Home Services, which you can see here. I wasn’t involved in any aspect of the website at all, except to refer her to the website designer I’ve recommended to several clients over the years. ]

This picture of Mississsippi based interior designer, Alisa Tarver Berry, that Patrick captured shows the essence of Alicia. It’s so beautiful.

If you’re getting an interior designer getting a new headshot taken, consider:

1. Your brand colors.
2. The background.
3. The lighting.

Make sure they all work together to convey your brand…and your personality.

Here’s a shot Patrick took of Patti Carpenter at Lightovation, at my request on that opening day, as Patti produced the Trend Report that informed the lighting choices in our Metaverse Lighting Trendhouse installation.

I also hired Patrick to come back with me to the National Kitchen and Bath Show to cover the grand reveal of my AILA sink for Thompson.

Here’s an image I took of Patrick , when he met me at 6:00 am at the Bellagio [ where I was staying ] to get an early start.

Do you know of another photographer that would meet you at 6:00 am in Las Vegas? Me, neither.

Patrick: thank you again!

Patrick has gone on to take stunning pictures of several of my designer friends who have hired him, most recently at Spring #HPMKT.

Here are some more…

The one below, of vacation rental designer and industry rockstar, Jessica Duce, the founder of the Vacation Rental Design Summit, [who wrote a beautiful testimonial about our work together which you can read here ], is my very favorite one of Jessica, out of all Patrick has taken of her.

This recent one of past client, interior designer and influencer, Juliana Smith Ewer, principal of J Squared Home Designs, captures the essence of Juliana in a way I’ve never seen another picture of her do. I love this picture of Juliana so much and the way the light is falling on the side of her face.

This one of my friend, interior designer Ruthie Staalsen, is magic. The lighting!

This one Patrick recently captured [ also at Texas Design Week] of my very good friend, interior designer Ilse Benard, principal of Ilse Benard Designs, is another one I love.

I’m ending this post with this stunning shot of Joy Maier, principal of The Aspiring Home Interiors, taken while she was with Robin and Alisa at #HPMKT. Joy usually wears glasses, but for this shot, Robin and Alisa encouraged her to remove them. What a beauty you are, Joy!

Patrick is a gem, and it’s not often you find a photographer who can capture people’s personalities so beautifully and effortlessly, and who is so nice to work with.

Patrick: thank you. I’m so glad our paths crossed through Thumbtack!

Designers: don’t underestimate keeping your information current on more obscure sites like Thumbtack. You never know where your next client is going to find you. Even if they aren’t your ideal client in terms of their budget - if you do a great job for them - their friends might be and, as we all know, referrals are the key to success for any business.

Written In Appreciation, Patrick.

This is the full length image Patrick took of me at Texas Design Week, [ which I cropped for the opening photo ] an event where I was TXDW’s Education Day partner in 2018 and 2019, both in Houston and Dallas.
