AI In Lighting Product Design

The use of artificial intelligence in lighting product design is beautifully demonstrated by Kuzco Lighting’s recent collaboration with NYC based jeweller and visual artist, Hannah Jewett.

First debuted in Kuzco Lighting’s showroom at June 2023 Lightovation, the Western Hemisphere’s largest residential lighting tradeshow with over 1 million square feet of lighting, I was immediately captivated by this display in Kuzco’s showroom, shown in my image below.

Hannah Jewett, Kuzco’s collaboration partner, is well known for her liquid, amorphous shapes, worn by the likes of Billie Eilish and other celebrities.

In person, these fixtures were beautifully executed, and looked just like Hannah’s jewelry, but in lighting form.

You can see Tearscape on Kuzco’s website, here, where it is available for pre-order, along with Septum, shown below.

I was pleasantly surprised by how affordable these are, and I love how Kuzco included a QR code for an augmented reality experience, so interested buyers can scan the QR code with their mobile phones and see the fixtures in their own homes before purchasing.

So smart. Every lighting manufacturer might want to consider adding QR codes like this on their own websites and if you’re a designer friend reading this, who offers products for sale on your own site, you might want to consider adding QR codes to your own site, too.

While I was at the June 2023 Lightovation show at Dallas Market Center, I had the opportunity to talk with Ashlen Haslam, Brand Communications Lead for Kuzco Lighting, one of Canada’s fastest growing companies.

Ashlen was responsible for this project and is a respected young leader in the lighting industry for her forward thinking vision.

So what’s next in innovation re: AI and lighting?

See this article in Furniture, Lighting and Decor, announcing the premier of the world’s first metaverse lighting #TrendHouse, that my company is producing for Dallas Market Center’s January 2034 Lightovation tradeshow.

AI has been utilized to create the artwork and rugs you will see in the #TrendHouse, all of which were designed by my collaboration partner, Annilee Waterman, the rendering artist who is also designing the interior and exterior architecture of the #TrendHouse, as well as rendering, and 3D modeling the furniture and lighting within the #TrendHouse.

Annilee is collaborating with celebrity designer Shay Geyer, owner of IBB Design Fine Furnishings, who has chosen all of the highlighted lighting fixtures from those submitted by Lightovation’s exhibitors, and who has provided guidance on the finish selections and interior design, in accordance with the 2024 lighting trend report, written by global trend forecaster, Patti Carpenter.

Innovation in product design through collaboration with designers and artists using artificial intelligence is here to stay and growing, and I applaud Kuzco Lighting for being the first in the lighting industry to implement and bring to market such an exciting innovation.

Furniture Lighting and Decor Magazine will be running several articles about this exciting event coming up in January so make sure to subscribe to their magazine [ it’s complimentary ] - if you haven’t already - by clicking here.

Fnally, I invite you to have a peek at this post I wrote, to read the backstory about my own AI product collaboration with luxury kitchen, bath and lifestyle brand, Thompson, for a sink their metalsmithing artisans are producing now out of copper, which will debut in their exhibitor space at the National Kitchen and Bath Show in February 2024 in Las Vegas.

Product design with AI [artificial intelligence ] is a growing field and I predict many more collaborations between designers and brands in the years to come.
